The Process Of Comparing Car Insurance Premiums

Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010

Begin with quick auto insurance quotes. When you’re looking for coverage for your car, you want to take time comparing car insurance rates to ensure you’re getting the best coverage for your money. One of the easiest ways to do this is to use online comparison sites.

All of the major auto coverage companies (i.e. State Farm, Progressive, Geico) have websites which will provide you with a free quote instantly. You simply go to their website, answer a handful of simple questions, and you’ll get a quote for a variety of coverage options.

However, when comparing car insurance prices it’s sometimes a better idea to use a non-affiliated website to make sure you’re not getting a biased quote. A non-affiliated website is one which is not part of a larger insurance company and doesn’t provide advertising of any sort for those companies.

There are a number of sites to use for comparing auto insurance rates. Two of the most commonly used sites are esurance.com and insurance.com.

The process for getting quotes online is fairly similar at most of these sites. You begin with your ZIP code. This is to ensure you are being provided with accurate information because automobile insurance laws vary a little from state to state.

Next you will be asked to provide information about the car being covered. You will need to know its make, model, year, and body style (this usually means convertible or coupe- not a convertible). You will also be expected to estimate about how many miles the car will be driven per year. Some sites will ask if you own the car outright, or if you’re making payments.

All of the sites for comparing auto insurance coverage costs, including the major providers, will ask you about your driving record. These aren’t usually very detailed questions at this stage, just whether or not you’ve had any major violations or any accidents within the last 3-5 years.

You will need to provide an e-mail address because most of these sites will actually e-mail the quote to you. Quotes are provided very quickly, but not always instantly. This is because it does take time for the sites to check with companies to get your quotes.

After you’ve received your e-mail comparing car insurance prices, most of the sites provide you a link to the companies so you can then go and sign up for insurance at that time. Remember, however, that since you will be receiving this information via e-mail, you can always go check with another site for more quotes and sign up at a later time.

However you choose to complete the process of comparing auto insurance coverage costs, it’s always a good idea to shop around for something like this. You want to make sure you are getting the best coverage you can for the least amount of money.

Use A Comparison Website To Save Cash On Your Car Insurance

Friday, February 19th, 2010

Have you ever used a car insurance comparison website? How did you find it? Now I am not sure as to how the readers of this article have answered this question, I however have just saved myself a small fortune after using such a site and in this article I will be expaining just how I did it; I hope you enjoy the read.

I had not previously used a comparison website as I thought it may be some kind of scam. I thought in this way as I believed that they were being paid by the insurance companies to promote their quotes etc.

Anyway back to how I managed to save myself the cash. The annual car renewal papers arrived in the post and the price was some what similar as to what I had paid last year. I had not made a car insurance claim in that period however I was quite happy with the price that they had quoted. I also rather liked the company that I was insured with as they do offer an excellent customer service.

Despite this I decided to put my details into one of the comparison websites and to my surprise some of the quotes were cheaper than what I had been offered with my current insurer.

Instead of just taking up one of these quotes I decided to contact my current insurer and stated the following:

“I have been insured with your company for the last three years and would like to stay with you. I have however managed to obtain a cheaper quote on the internet at one of the comparison websites. Are you able to match their price?”

To my surprise the company agreed and I felt like I had won a major victory. It was now time for a pizza!

People have told me that there are no simple ways to make money but this definitely was one.

There are numerous other comparison type sites for example ones where they compare loans, and others where that compare home insurance.

There are even sites that offer such things as comparison prices for ”cheap holidays”; who knows they may even compare “composite door company” websites in the future!

I am not sure about you but I will definitely be using a comparison site again in the future.

If however the above does not work for you then you could appoint a group of business cost cutting experts to devise a cost reduction strategy.

Whichever option you take I hope you are successful at saving some cash, let’s face it in this financial climate we could all do with some extra money.

Auto Insurance in Southern California – What You Need Now & Savings Coming Up

Sunday, February 7th, 2010

As with most states, California auto insurance law requires all motorists to carry three fundamental liability components.

Bodily Injury Liability (BIL) of $ 15,000 per person injured

Total Bodily Injury Liability of $ 30,000 per accident

Property Damage Liability or PDL of $ 15,000 per accident

In insurance industry jargon, this is known as 15/30/15.

But to rely on this coverage alone, would be sheer foolishness. Multiple pile-ups and ambitious lawyers often drive the cost of a vehicular accident to well beyond six figures. If you’re at fault & you’ve stuck to the minimums, you and your estate, are now liable for the shortfall. As a result, you’ll need to sell your home, empty your savings account and possibly more. How does that sound to you?

Based on experience, I strongly suggest a bare minimum of 100/300/100 and more if you’re often on the road…particularly in the many elite communities of the Golden State. Spending a few extra bucks here is money well spent.

So far, only liability coverage has been discussed…and that does not apply to damages to your vehicle or injuries to you. The rest of what we will discuss is not required by CA law.

First, let’s look after you. Personal Injury Protection (PIP) pays for injury to you and your passengers no matter who was at fault. I suggest PIP coverage of no less than $ 100,000.

Next, your vehicle. To most folks, full coverage means the combination of collision and comprehensive.

Collision insurance has a two-fold purpose; to cover the repair cost of your damaged vehicle or, if “totaled”, to make a monetary settlement. You are liable for a nominated “deductible” amount…and the insurance company pays the remainder.

Comprehensive insurance protects your vehicle against theft & vandalism and damages from fire & smoke, animal impact and Mother Nature.

Another essential coverage is protection from uninsured drivers. It’s not your fault, but he won’t pay. Here’s where your uninsured/underinsured driver coverage comes to the rescue.

Auto insurance Southern California introduces “pay-by-mile” program.

California’s Insurance Commission has tabled a proposal allowing insurance companies to charge consumers based on actual miles driven. Similar to buying prepaid cell phone minutes…consumers would pay upfront for a specified number of miles to be driven over a limited period of time. A mileage monitor will be installed in the vehicle, and insurance companies will charge on the basis of miles driven.

Consumer advocates are in favor of the proposal because charging for miles driven (as opposed to an insurance company’s projection) should mean savings to low mileage motorists.

And possibly more important, it will serve as an incentive for drivers to stay off the road. Environmentalists predict this type of auto insurance in La Mesa and other California cities will encourage consumers to drive less…leading to lower fuel consumption, reduced pollution and less road congestion.

The plan looks like an all-out winner to me.

Quotes From Classic Car Insurers

Monday, September 7th, 2009

No matter what sort of insurance you’re looking for, there are a variety of methods you can use to get a quote: you can get it in person, via mail or telephone, or over the internet. Grab a free auto insurance quote instantly at this classic car insurance site. Companies that specialize in classic and/or antique car insurance, although they provide somewhat different types of coverage (including, in some cases, mileage-based rates as well as various different kinds of coverage), are no different.

Currently, many insurance companies will provide you with a quote instantly through their websites. You’ll generally be asked to enter a variety of data in order to receive an accurate quote. First, you’ll input basic information such as date of birth and location data, which may include the location of the vehicle’s registration as well as the location where it will be garaged.

After this, you will probably be asked to input pertinent information about the car itself. This typically includes the year, make, and model. The type of vehicle (car, truck, motorcycle, etc.) may also be required. Most companies specializing in classic auto insurance offer coverage based on an agreed valuation, in which cases you will be required to input your valuation of the vehicle, as well as whether it is stock, modified, a replica or otherwise. You may also be given some choice as to the deductible. Some will require additional data, possibly including the type of garage in which the car is stored, annual mileage, and so on.

After this, you will see your quote. For example, a hypothetical stock 1962 Mercedes-Benz 190SL registered in Florida worth $60,000 was given these quotes from classic car insurance specialists: Hagerty – $509; Grundy – $429.25; American Collectors – $427.18. Of course, these quotes contain much more detail than just the annual fees themselves and are dependent upon many variables. They usually contain liability information, and many give you the option of looking at a detailed breakdown of the things that help make up the total price. Furthermore, many insurers will let you register and save your quote for posterity so that you can come back later and officially apply for insurance.

It generally takes no more than a couple of minutes to get a quote online, even for something as specific and potentially complex as classic auto insurance. For classic vehicle owners, it’s definitely worth the effort to take this time to compare quotes and find out where the best value is. Get an online car insurance quotation.

Dirt Cheap Automobile Insurance — 7 Guaranteed Tips

Thursday, June 4th, 2009

I’ll discuss more ways anyone can get massive discounts without downgrading their coverage. Don’t fail to take note of the precaution you’re advised to take as you make use of these tips…

1. Being a member of some professions will make you pay much more for auto insurance. An attorney attracts more expensive rates than an engineer. Members of certain professions use their vehicles a lot more and, as a group, show patterns that make them worse risks.

Ask your agent if your profession attracts some discounts. Take note of the fact that, like many things in insurance, the discount you’ll be given will be based on your insurance carrier’s relevancy score of profession as a parameter in calculating a prospect’s risk.

2. Those who live in crowded areas are more likely to have one form of car accident or another when compared to people who live in rural sparsely populated areas. It makes sense to live in a less congested area if it fits your circumstance because the risk of vandalism, theft or collision is far less.

3. Reviewing your auto insurance policy is one way you can bring down your rates. The simple reason for this is that things about us change often without us taking serious note of them. A good example is a case where a couple leave their wedded daughter on their policy for months or even a few years just because they did not remember.

The changes in your life might have qualified you for certain discounts. You might as well have “outgrown” the need for certain coverage types.

It would, therefore, do you a world of good to review your policy yearly or twice yearly. Finding even one thing that you no longer need on your policy and dropping it will save you something reasonable.

4. Do your utmost to always make sure your policy never lapses. People who allow this to happen to them attract only higher rates for a long time. It’s easy for this to happen to many people as they are switching to another insurance provider.

A simple way to ensure you do NOT make this type of mistake is to leave your old policy intact until you’re sure the new policy is fully operational. It looks simple but, take it or leave it, a lot of individuals are paying a lot more just because they overlooked this.

5. Do you know that you might be losing money if you have a car that you’ve not used for months? Do you have a car that you’ve just forgotten about because of the headaches it gives you or something? Are you still paying premiums on such a car because you did NOT remember to remove it from your auto insurance policy?

Simple as this looks a lot of people end up paying thousands in unnecessary premiums because they don’t remember to remove such cars from their policy. I hope this is not the case with you.

6. Paying your premium annually will result in more affordable rates than choosing monthly payments. Even though this alternative is always more convenient, it costs more for some reasons..

There are transaction fees that are attached to processing a check. While annual payment calls for a single check and therefore a transaction per year, monthly payments attrract twelve. This implies that transaction charges would be twelve times more for those who pay monthly.

That’s one side of it: Insurance companies also incure higher admnistrative costs for your monthly premiums. For example, it costs insurance companies millions of dollars annually to send out payment notices..

These costs plus a profit margin for this this “value-added service” is included in your rates making it more than another of the same profile that pays yearly every year.

7. You could save several hundreds of dollars by simply getting and evaluating quotes from not less than five quotes sites. And, it will take only about 25 minutes on the whole.

Steps To Qualify For The Cheapest Vehicle Insurance Quotes

Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009

You will obtain low quotes and end up paying the cheapest rate possible for your profile if you learn and implement certain things. I’ll show a number of steps to take if you want massive discounts that won’t leave you with inadequate coverage…

1. A straightforward but rewarding way of reducing your premium is by authorizing an EFT (Electronic Funds Transfer). This just means your insurance provider takes your premiums automatically from your account each month without sending you payment notices. This eliminates administrative costs like those incurred when mailing payment notices. This is why this gets you lower premium.

2. It’s a known fact that young drivers attract high rates. Worse still, if they are teenagers their auto insurance rates could be really high.

This means that you’ll help keep your rates down if you do NOT have a teen driver on your policy. You’ll be made to pay very high rates if you do otherwise. Your teen driver should have his/her own policy. This will be made possible if you sign an exclusion form.

If a teen is keen on driving then then should be made responsible for at least the cost of their auto insurance. An addition argument in favor of this is that your teen will be more willing to take measures to reduce what he or she pays. The full implication of this is that your teen will be a lot safer as they’d do their best to avoid inflating their rates.

Find cheap car insurance for teens.

3. Insurers give give customers who have remained loyal a long term discount and accident forgiveness. Depending on the insurer, you’ll be eligible for a discount of 5% once you’ve stayed with them for between three and five years.

The accident forgiveness discount means that your insurer will not raise your rates if you file just one claim. These are all incentives for you to stay with them for as long as possible. The longer you stay, the more you’ll save.

However, what you may save by switching to another insurer might far outweigh all the incentives you’ll get depending on what your rates are and how much another insurer is ready to offer.

4. Your might be paying a lot more than you should because of some really unnecessary add-ons like towing. Do you know that your credit card company might have already given you towing as an extra benefit?

Overall, you’re better off using a third pary towing service than placing it on your auto insurance policy.

5. Make sure your car is always parked in a safe place. Is there a risk of theft, vandalism or accidental damage where you park your car? Then look for a better place as doing otherwise might lead to a claim that will eventually increase your rate. I hope you also know that you’ll pay less if you have a garage for your car.

And, lest I forget, if you drive out in the night do your best to have your car parked in a well-lit area. That will deter thieves.

6. You can save much money in auto insurance if you obtain and compare auto insurance quotes from insurance quotes sites. You will make savings if you use only one quotes site. However, you will get better results by using at least five.

The simple reason for this is that you will obtain a greater number of auto insurance quotes from many more insurers. This increases your chances of receiving better quotes.

Cheapest Auto Insurance: 7 Time-Tested Tips

Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009

Contrary to what you might be made to believe, it’s a lot easy to attract an affordable rate. All you have to do to achieve this end are little bits of information. Let’s look at several time-tested ways to get better rates…

1. One easy way to make sure you get cheaper rates is by being careful always while driving. You’ll be making a smart decision to always avoid being behind the wheels once you take alcohol.

Driving while drunk, even if mildly will make you get sky-high rates if you’re fortunate or be forced to be without auto insurance if luck isn’t on your side. While alcohol-related traffic offences have very clear and grave consequences, speeding tickets will also make you pay much more if they become frequent. So, if it’s a violation of traffic laws, avoid it no matter how minor it may seem at the time.

2. You will bring down your auto insurance cost if you have an outstanding credit rating. People who have bad credit pay higher rates for all forms of insurance and that includes auto insurance. The plain reason for this is that there is a general consensus among most insurance carriers that there is a link between poor credit histories and high risks. For some insurance carriers it is a pattern they believe you might repeat with them in premium defaults. This means more risk to them and higher premiums for you.

3. A multi-vehicle discount is a sure-fire and simple way to enjoy cheaper rates. It It’s advisable to insure all your vehicles with the same insurance company unless got a better bargain for some of your vehicles with another insurer. Doing some shopping and then checking with what you’ll get from a multi-vehicle discount is an easy way to know for sure if this is in your best interest. But if you don’t have plans to shop around, you can rest assured that you’ll still save handsomely with a multi-vehicle discount.

4. You’ll also be eligible for a considerable discount if you have multiple policies with the same insurance carrier. All you need to do to qualify for this discount is to get your vehicle insurance policy from the same company which is providing, say, your home insurance.

However, I must stress that you may NOT save as much as you might by switching. It’s recommended that you get and compare quotes. You will be certain of the right option for your profile after you do this.

5. Drivers who don’t make claims for over three years usually get a special discount for this. But don’t be surprised if your agent tells you your auto insurance provider does not offer this discount.

Your agent should be made to understand your dissatisfaction with their refusal to offer you such a discount and don’t fail to point out that you may leave for another insurer. In fact, you should because you’ll almost always get a better deal somewhere else if you’ve maintained a clean slate for this long.

And, believe it or not, your insurer is likely to shift grounds if they see you’re really serious about leaving.

6. You’re certainly paying too much if you have collision and comprehensive coverage for an old car that is not a classic. Your car’s Kelly Blue Book value at the time of a claim (and not the value of the car when you bought it) is what determines what you’ll get from your insurer. So even if you’ve paid your premiums faithfully for years but the Kelly Blue Book value says your car is worth nothing, you’ll get nothing from your insurer and they’ll be totally covered by the law.

Do the smart thing and remove either of them from your auto policy. You’ll be saving much that way.

7. You could save some hundreds of dollars by just getting and evaluating quotes from about five quotes sites. And, it will take just about 25 minutes on the whole.

Cheap Auto Insurance Secrets

Monday, April 13th, 2009

Locating a feasible auto insurance policy, one that is affordable, can seem like a mammoth effort. This may be clearly illustrated during those times when you are searching and comparing different auto insurance quotes and the rate number change. There is a reason the numbers change.

In fact, this an example of a cheap auto insurance secret. To learn what you can do to pay less for auto insurance coverage, look at the following points. First, you will have considerations regarding the form your auto insurance takes.

The truth is that there are several factors that are incorporated in to the structure of an auto insurance policy, making it what it is from the ground up. This might involve basic costs or anything else that can be changed according to preference. An example might be increase rates due to past accidents or traffic tickets. With tickets, a good way to offset this damaging factor is to seek out a means to negate the effects so it no longer remains a liability. On way to deal with the ticket is to enroll in traffic classes. Since it is possible to take online classes, you could easily better your standing to get better rates.

There is another decisive factor that should be included that will indirectly influence the cost of auto insurance premiums. It is where you live. You should know that the kind of neighborhood you live in as well as the parking place for your car can affect the price of auto insurance.

This factor becomes more understandable if you live in a location where heavy traffic is an everyday issue or where the crime rates are higher. Still, you do have ways you can change the effects these factors might have. For instance, they can be lowered if you let the insurance company know you have a garage with security features. Of course, you may feel that it might be worth moving to a different location to get more affordable insurance rates.

It remains an uncomfortable fact that there are elements that will definitely influence the price of your auto insurance coverage; they are so-called hidden factors. Obviously, if you have been researching various insurance quotes, you should have gathered the information necessary to make a good decision.

The relevance to all of this information is that you will be better equipped to evaluate the different offers and may develop a more discerning eye when it comes to those offers that look to good to be true. Take the time that you need to consider your options thoroughly when you are going to buy auto insurance. This can make a big difference.
